To get a picture of where I am, a baseline, it was off to the lab for some run and some bike testing. The Monkey set me up with the Fish and he has a nice lab to do all the testing in. Some painful testing later using some protocols devised my my coach and some standard max tests I’ve a very good picture of where I am. Vo2max and LT1 and LT2 are all nicely positioning. Some other key indicators need work though. Mostimportantly I know what I need to do to get where I want to be. Gotta stay away from the biccies!

So before flying over to Exeter for the training weekend with Rich Brady I was suggesting doing more volume in the week after the camp than was on my programme. The response was “sure, if you want but I’ve a feeling you’ll be too tired for it”. I have to admit I doubted Rich. I didn’t say anything but I thought no way, that I’d be grand by the Tuesday. Of course I was wrong and Rich was right. I was completely and utterly smashed until the Thursday. I’ve not been so wrecked after a weekend before.

Thursdays training included a different and potentially nice swim set. Main set being 25×100 off 1:50 with a nice mix of swim, pull and paddles. Get to the pool Thursday morning. Have togs, forgot swim bag. Jiggle training about a bit so I can do it Friday morning. Get to the pool Friday morning. Have swim bag, forgot togs. Contemplated swimming in my jogs bit decided against it. Picked up spare swim togs in work to swim after work. Get to pool after work. Have togs, left swim bag on work. Just not meant to be.
