This week has been a disaster for training. I got a cold/flu and have been under the weather. While I was very tempted to HTFU and train anyways I recognised that that would only result in a longer layup.
Last week was a good solid week. A bike focuse week. 14 hours riding Saturday and Sunday. Cavan to the top of Donegal and back. Great fun.

I like coffee. I’ve a nice coffee machine at home and in my old job we had a nice coffee machine. However in my new job its either instant or go out for coffee. So we go out once a day for coffee. To an Insomnia near work. B@st@rds have a deal going where for an extra 50c you get a muffin. Who can say no to that???? Not very good for the waistline, and therefore running. Its going to take a lot of HTFUing (or instant coffee) to knock this one on the head!

I’ve been to Oktoberfest celebrations in Germany before, and gone on the pi$$ in the IFSC in the name of Oktoberfest as well. However this years Oktoberfest will be slightly different (for starters I’ve been banned from drinking Paulaner).
Oktoberfest is the joking name given to a four day cycling trip around the northwest of Ireland that myself and a friend are doing. As it is his “off-season week” no compression gear, energy drinks, recovery drinks, energy bars or gels are allowed. Also no running is allowed “otherwise it would be a training weekend”. Instead of bratwurst and currywurst there will be boxty. Instead of getting stupidly drunk and falling around the place I’ll be crucified for the guts of 700km by someone “riding easy, faffing really”. Can’t wait……….

Up to this my biggest run week ever hasn’t been huge, but not not huge, but it was the furthest I’d ever ran in a week by a long shot. The last two weeks training have had a big run focus and as a result the week before last saw me run 30km more than that big week, and last week running 40km more than that big week. Thats alot of bl00dy running. Loved every km of it. More and bigger weeks to come!

Well I have sort of fell behind in updating the blog. I’ve been running a bit, swimming a bit and riding a little. Last week was a testing week again and AeT testing on the run and the bike showed about 8% improvements since the last round of testing. Just need to keep at it now – this will be the tricky thing. Although I think that may be a bit of a problem when the demands on my time go up, and they are already going up considerably – but hey, I’ll do what I can.
Saturday was a late night, stayed up watching Kona. Have to admit to be devastated when 57:52 was rewritten as 1:30. Respect to all the Irish contingent. A tough race by all accounts.
Weight is thankfully continuing the downwards trend.

Amazingly despite eating more cr@p in the last seven days than I normally would in two months, and despite it being a recovery week I managed to loose more weight. Still a long long way to go as I’ve been reminded during the week by a certain fish.

Obviously doing the damage I did to my knee and to still have a golf ball sized lump on the kneecap was always going to have repercusions and I thought I knew what they were. Discomfort when sitting for extended periods, a slight change to my running and walking gait, and a slight tendency for my ITB on the right side to tighten more than usual. However I discovered anothe one today, a more painful one. Lots of pain when my knee is cold and trying to cycle. It was cold this morning and I went out in shorts only on the bike (just riding to the pool). Lots and lots of pain coming out of the knee due to the cold, will need to invest in more leg warmers and leggings this year I fear.
